MEMORIAL OF ST. CLARE, VIRGIN, TUESDAY AUGUST 11, 2026
St. Clare was a friend and follower of St. Francis of Assisi. Born in 1194 in Italy, she was from a wealthy noble family and sold all she had to follow the Gospel and to serve Christ in the poor. She was the founder of the Poor Clares, the first Franciscan women's order devoted to a life of absolute poverty, prayer and seclusion. She wrote the first monastic rule by a woman, obtained papal approval for the Privilege of Poverty, and is patron of television, eye disorder, and embroiderers.
